Kinnelon, NJ Job
Job Description:
The owners of this antique stone fireplace with a brick chimney and bake oven had purchased the historic fireplace from a historic house being salvaged in Mystic, CT. The elements which could be re-used were put on a truck and brought to the site in Kinnelon, NJ where it was re-erected. The back stone in the firebox had to be repaired with a stone glue epoxy and then have the face of the stone repaired using Lithomex. ® Mortar in color code DGM 050 was used to lay up all the bricks that were purchased new as antique hand-molded brick. ® Mortar in color code DGM SCG (F), a non-pigmented, fine sanded (NHL) lime mortar was used as the parge coat on the exterior of the bake oven dome which was built up with three layers of brick in order to retain the heat of the re-constructed Bee-Hive oven when baking was to occur. The interior stonework was pointed up in ® Mortar in color code DGM 300 to give an antique and complementary hue to the reds and browns in the old stone. Special thanks to French Creek Masonry Works and Vreeland Landscape and Masonry for their contributions to making this project come together so well. | View Next Job Back to Topics |
