Gwynedd, PA Job
Job Description:
deGruchy Masonry Restoration removed the inappropriate gray and white Portland cement pointing and patching work previously carried out on one wall of the Mill. We replaced the missing pointing mortar with a pure lime mortar which is compatible with the original bedding mortar of this stone wall. We then applied base coats of lime render (a lime stucco that comes in a muddy color, Code- DGM 100) to the stone faces. This type of treatment was the original and traditional shelter coat design which was first applied to flush out the wall flat. We then applied a finish coat of pure lime render in a white, non-pigmented lime and sand coating and further whitewashed the wall with pure St. Astier Lime Paint Natural. This very utilitarian finish is what would have been installed on barns and Mills of the era, including the Evans Mumbower Mill, but the whitewash wore away and the base coats fell off over time. | View Next Job Back to Topics |
