Walnut Juice Masonry Stain

A staining aid that can be applied to fresh lime mortar during curing or afterward to stain the work. One topical application using a sponge brush swiped over hardened joints, including brick and stone surfaces can slightly darken the mortar or masonry units.

The darkening is very slight to the extent that a patina may begin to make the new work appear closer in age to the historic work it is surrounded by when only patch pointing and localized repairs are done. Additional coats can be applied to darken the work a little more. 1.9 oz of Alum can be added per gallon of Walnut Juice to help darken the work even further and hold the set of the stain even longer.

The material is safe for humans but it is considered poisonous to horses because Walnut Juice kills the digestive bacteria required for horses to digest their food.
