Lime Paint Product Description:
Vibrant and beautiful, the Le Décor – Saint-Astier® lime paint range is the perfect complement to lime plaster and is suitable for most backgrounds. More like a stain than paint, lime paint is absorbed into the wall, penetrating the background. Once cured, the mineral paint allows the surface to breathe, becoming a peel-free surface as it allows humidity to escape. It can be applied to gypsum plasters, drywall, lining paper, cement and lime backgrounds, bricks, blocks, and untreated timber. Can be applied with a natural bristle brush or sprayed.

Lime Paints – Recommendations & Data:
It can be applied to gypsum plasters, drywall, lining paper, cement and lime backgrounds, bricks, blocks, and untreated timber.
Mixing Lime Paint:
Fill the container with clean water to the beginning of the round opening from the bottom going up. Proper mixing is essential. When mixed it should be completely free of lumps or fine particles. For gallon and quart containers put the lid on securely and shake for 3-5 minutes to thoroughly mix the paint. For mixing a five-gallon pail blend using a drill mixer with a paddle attachment for 3-5 minutes to thoroughly mix. Best to let sit with the lid on for 24 hours before use. Stir and apply to per dampened masonry surface.

Although I understand the benefits of breathable mineral paint on lime plaster, the color matching is almost impossible. Painting a whole wall is practical but i wouldn’t even bother trying to match repairs or patches etc. I tried 429 which is supposed to be a light brown/tan color. you can see it is almost antique white when dry after 4 coats. in pictures brown color on patches are wet, light tan color is dry. Application and coverage however were easy though it does tend to splatter when brushed because it is quite thin. good luck!
Hi Ray, I’m sorry to hear you had a tough time with color matching. Digital displays are difficult to read color on and change from device to device, that is why we always recommend a few alternatives to getting a better color match. You can pick a Benjamin Moore or Sherman Williams color swatch or send us a sample of the material you would like simulated and we will do a custom simulation for your approval (read more here). You can also purchase paint swatches of our color options for a better color representation (read more).
I’m very happy with the St. Astier we used. The application process takes some getting used to. You have to keep mixing as you go or the top layer will be too thin and the bottom too thick. One of my orders was slow in coming which complicated my schedule a bit, but I’ve moved on from that now.
